Celebrate Simple Pleasures of Life

Man stands between boulders on summit, arms out

Many times we heard people saying that, ‘best things in life are free’, as a kid I always thought what this meant; everything that I wanted as a kid always came with a price tag hanging next to it. But as life happened and my small mind started comprehending meanings behind those simple but wise words, I realized how true those words were.

Life is filled with simple pleasures, the little satisfying effects you never really anticipate, but always take great pleasure in.  They are the gifts of life that we each subconsciously celebrate in our own unique way. Be it our fulfilling relationship with our dear ones, friendships, satisfaction of job well done, and time spent with loved ones or pursuing our passion. Those long walks in the morning, feeling tiny rain drops on our face, watching the beauty of nature are just there for us to enjoy and best part with no price tag.

Beyond a shadow of a doubt, the five items mentioned below will help you connect with yourself and appreciate the fact that indeed, best things in life comes for free and we should take every opportunity to enjoy these, while we can still do it.

Good Health – Good health is a greatest gift that one can have. Mostly people neglect their health and indulge in negative pleasures which ruin their health in long run. As Robin Sharma has put it “Health is the crown on the well person’s head that only the sick person can see.” So why not appreciate and enjoy this gift of good health when you can.

Family – We always work to earn more, for next promotion, for next big project and in all this many of us spend long hours in front of a box and sitting in a box. In this entire race to get somewhere we often compromise our relationship, our families. Even when we are at home post a long day at work we are so tired that only thing that we end up doing is sitting in front of TV watching some stupid serial and then to bed. Where is family in this? A fulfilling relationship needs time; make time to enjoy your life with people you love.

A good Laugh – ‘Laughter is the best medicine’ are the golden word and no doubt we all have experienced this many times in our life. There is nothing like a good laugh, it makes you feel happy. Life appears to be extraordinary in the moments when you are laughing so hard you can barely breathe.  These moments of deep laughter are marvellous in the sense that they clean your mind, take you to happiness frequency and show you the positive side of everything.

Gift of nature – As a child I loved getting drenched in rain, playing in water, watching birds. And I agree that as an adult life do change with all responsibilities and work but I still love doing these things. Nature has that healing effect in it and when we connect with it same sense of peace and tranquillity is bestowed upon us. So spend time with nature it is indeed free. Take a quite walk in woods, go for running, and watch morning sun making everything picturesque or watch sunset with loved ones. There is so much to appreciate and receive when you are with nature.

Reminiscing old stories – It’s nice to share your stories and memories but it’s even better when you recount those stories with the people who lived those moments alongside you. Greatest achievements, funny events and even accidents go a notch up the good memory factor when recounted with friends. Make your life worth cherishing, be happy, take risk, do what you love and finally keep your loved ones close.

When life seems flat and grey, take some time to think of life’s simple pleasures.  Just focusing on these and expressly making time in your day to enjoy them can lift your spirits and make you feel happier

  1. I loved this post! I especially took “good health” to heart. Sometimes it seems like the only time we value good health is when we are feeling ill. Yet when we are feeling lazy, we don’t take on the attitude that we are able-bodied and can go for a walk, run, or commit to some other form of exercise. I’m happy you shared these simple pleasures with the world. They served as my Sunday morning reflection! Thank you!!
